Our Mission

Shaping the future of the film & television industry through public education. Louisiana Academy of Production is dedicated to building a more inclusive pipeline of college and career-ready students in Louisiana who are interested in the film, television, and digital media industries.

About Us

Welcome to the Louisiana Academy of Production (LAAP), a groundbreaking charter high school set to open in August 2026 in Baton Rouge. At LAAP, our mission is to shape the future of the film and television industry by cultivating a diverse pipeline of college and career-ready individuals right here in Louisiana.

Our high-concept program is designed to equip students with the skills and opportunities necessary for successful entry into competitive collegiate media programs or directly into high-wage careers within the film, television, and digital media sectors. We envision a school culture that fosters creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Students will have access to exciting and innovative classes, as well as extracurricular activities that will provide real-world experience and connections within the industry. LAAP is committed to supporting our families by providing a comprehensive and forward-thinking education that prepares students for a dynamic and exciting future.

While specific details about classes and extracurriculars are still being developed for the 2026 opening, LAAP aims to offer a curriculum focused on various aspects of film and television production. This will likely include pathways in areas such as editing, cinematography, set design, production management, and potentially the business side of the entertainment industry. The school intends to provide a blend of academic rigor and practical, hands-on learning experiences relevant to the industry.

Student Support Services

As Louisiana Academy of Production (LAAP) is a new charter high school opening in August 2026, our student support services are currently under development. However, our vision includes a comprehensive network of support to ensure the well-being and academic success of all our students. While specific programs are being finalized, we anticipate offering the following key services:

  • Nurse: We plan to have a dedicated nursing staff to address students' immediate health needs, provide basic first aid, manage medication administration as required, and serve as a point of contact for health-related concerns. We aim to foster a healthy school environment and provide resources to support student wellness.
  • School Counselor: A professional school counselor will be an integral part of our support system. The counselor will provide individual and group counseling services to address students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. This will include support for personal challenges, conflict resolution, stress management, and the development of healthy coping mechanisms. The counselor will also play a key role in academic advising, helping students understand graduation requirements, explore their interests, and develop academic plans.
  • Social Worker: Recognizing the diverse needs of our student population, we intend to have a school social worker who will focus on addressing systemic barriers to learning and well-being. The social worker will provide support and resources for students and families facing social, emotional, or economic challenges. This may include connecting families with community resources, providing crisis intervention, and working to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • Language Support Services: As a school committed to serving a diverse student body, we anticipate offering language support services for English Language Learners (ELLs). The specific model for these services is still under development but may include sheltered instruction, where content is adapted to the language proficiency levels of English Language Learner (ELL) students, and/or direct English language development instruction. We aim to provide the necessary support for English Language Learner (ELL) students to access the curriculum and develop their English language skills effectively. We will assess students' language proficiency upon enrollment to determine the level of support that is most suitable for them.
  • Students with Special Needs Support Services: LAAP is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with disabilities. We will adhere to all federal and state regulations regarding special education. We anticipate having qualified special education staff who will work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide individualized support and accommodations as outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans. This may include specialized instruction, assistive technology, and related services to ensure that students with special needs have access to the curriculum and can achieve their full potential. We will conduct thorough evaluations to identify students' specific needs and develop appropriate support plans.
  • College/Standardized Test Prep Support: Recognizing the importance of post-secondary planning, LAAP intends to offer resources and support for college and standardized test preparation. This may include workshops on college applications, financial aid guidance, and practice opportunities for standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT. Our school counselor will play a key role in guiding students through the college application process and helping them explore their post-graduation options. We also envision incorporating skills relevant to college and career readiness throughout our curriculum

Please note that these are our current plans, and the specific details of our student support services will continue to be developed as we prepare for our 2026 opening. Our goal is to create a comprehensive and responsive support system that empowers all LAAP students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
